Wings are the ticket for local entrepreneur

Ira Levy goes through three tons of wings a week. Of course, he has a lot of help from his customers. The 32-year-old owner/manager of Buffalo Wings and Beer obviously has tapped into a good triumvirate – wings, beer and billiards. Starting with one sports-oriented gathering place in Gaithersburg six years ago, Levy now has three locations in the county. The original is in the Horizon Center at 8035C Snouffers School Road (301-208-1900).

The newer addtions are at 15412 New Hampshire Ave. in Cloverly (301-879-4900) and in Plaza del Mercado, 2223 Bel Pre Road in Silver Spring (301-871-0295). The Plaza del Mercado BWB does not have billiards.

In addition, Levy has sold four franchises in the Frederick area (one is at 5 Willowdale Drive, 301-698-0100). One is expected to open in Mount Airy in about three months. The restaurants are open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. “We’re more than a niche store,” Levy says, noting the new expanded menu. After wings, the most asked for items are the barbecued ribs and handmade crabcakes.
