Gaithersburg, Md., September 13, 2010 – Ira Levy, Owner of Buffalo Wings & Beer restaurant has just returned from the National Buffalo Wing Festival with a first place win.

The National Buffalo Wing Festival is held on Labor Day weekend every year in Buffalo, New York.  Hundreds of restaurants apply to compete at the festival, but only thirty are chosen to attend.  The festival, held at Coca Cola field, draws a crowd of nearly 80,000 visitors every year.  It is estimated that a quarter of a million people have attended the event since its inception and 2.4 million wings have been consumed.

Buffalo Wings & Beer restaurants were created and founded in 1995 by Silver Spring native, Ira Levy.  It was his love of buffalo wings and his desire for a laid back place to hang out that inspired him to start the business.  “I never envisioned winning awards for our wings, but I always knew they were great”, said Levy.  He says he still eats wings almost daily and never tires of them.

The first place prize was awarded in the “Creative Sweet” category for his Sweet & Tangy sauce.  This is the third year that the restaurant has been invited to compete in the festival.  Last year they returned home with a second place win.  Levy is already setting his sights on the 2011 festival.  “I have been in talks with my sauce manufacturer and we are working on some new flavors for next year”, said Levy.  Levy wants to get the sauces made so they can go through rigorous taste tests, scored by the customers in the restaurants.  Of the customer, Levy says, “They are the best judges.  They love eating wings and they tell me what they think”.

Buffalo Wings and Beer’s wings are often sited as the best in the D.C. area.  The restaurant offers cold beer on tap, low prices, weekly specials, fun appetizers, crab cakes, cheese steaks, pizza and more.  The place has a fun, family-friendly atmosphere with sports on as many TVs as the place can hold.  Pool tables, darts and more just add to the ambience.  Buffalo Wings and Beer is now located in Gaithersburg, Md., Cloverly, Md., Eldersburg, Md., Frederick, Md., Baltimore, Md., Glen Burnie, Md., Hagerstown, Md., and a new location set to open any day in Leesburg, Virginia.   For catering and a party menu hot line, call 1-877-BWB-FOOD or 1-877-292-3663 or check out their website at www.BuffaloWingsandBeer.com
